Why choose Nauders / Ischgl?
You’ll be spoilt for choice, with access to outstanding skiing in three countries – Austria, Italy and Switzerland. The village of Pfunds lies between two excellent ski areas – Nauders / Reschenpass and Ischgl / Samnaun, while Nauders, which shares a border with Italy, offers up a fantastic network of pistes suitable for a wide range of skiing abilities.
If you choose to stay in pretty Pfunds, which features a historic centre, you’ll have access to a good range of shops, bars and restaurants. Located where three international borders meet – Austria, Italy and Switzerland – it offers easy access to the duty-free village of Samnaun, which can only be reached by road from Pfunds. The larger town of Landeck offers a wide range of amenities around 30 minutes’ drive from the two ski areas. You’ll find plenty to do both on and off the slopes in the Nauders / Ischgl ski area.
On the piste
The Nauders ski area is a great destination for beginners looking to progress. With nursery slopes conveniently located at village level, make your next stop at the top station of the Bergkastel. From here, your students can try out their newly acquired ski skills on a variety of blue and red runs. Bergkastel is also good for boarders, featuring a snow park with slides, jumps and a halfpipe.
Upgrade to a Gold Card for more of a challenge and a chance to tackle the more difficult slopes of Samnaun and Ischgl. You can reach the ski area via Samnaun – a little corner of Switzerland, which lies on the border with Tirol. The whole Nauders / Ischgl area is a good option for skiing well into the season – often as late as May.
