Why choose Dachstein West?

The breathtaking, UNESCO-listed Dachstein Mountains continue to attract school groups year after year. Catering to every level, from novice to expert, 142 kilometres of skiable terrain offers plenty of options for everyone. The Dachstein West ski region’s location in the heart of Austria sets it apart, with distinct resorts providing a great atmosphere and value for money for school groups.

Surrounded by dramatic peaks, the former royal spa town of Bad Ischl is set in the heart of the Austrian Lake District. The attractive town and spa centre of Bad Goisern adds another string to Dachstein West’s bow, offering easy access to Bad Ischl and Salzburg, and the charming village of Gosau provides a perfect base from which to explore the impressive Dachstein West ski region, via two access lifts connecting to Russbach and Annaberg.

On the piste

Complete beginners have plenty of space to get to grips with the basics, before gaining the confidence to move on to the long, tree-lined blue runs of Gosau. The wide range of red runs on the Zweiselalm provides intermediate skiers with plenty of room to manoeuvre as well as good links to Annaberg and Russbach. Advanced skiers have 16 kilometres of challenging black runs to play with, while 86 per cent snowmaking coverage ensures a long season.

Designed by freeride experts, four terrain parks, including the snowpark on the Edtalmbahn in Russbach, provide challenging obstacle courses for boarders and freestyle skiers. And a well-maintained, 23-strong lift network featuring the latest chairlift technology links the region's unspoilt and welcoming traditional resorts.
