Recommended Excursions

Königssee
This glacial clear water lake is not only beautiful but also highlights Austrian concerns about sustainability. All boats other than rowboats and electric-powered boats are banned from the lake making it an extremely peaceful place to visit.

Werfen Ice Caves
The network of ice encrusted caves disappear 42kms into the mountainside making them the largest example of ice cave anywhere in the world. Cold weather gear is suggested as even when it is hot outside the caves retain a steady temperature of zero.

Grossglockner Mountain
Welcome to Austria‘s highest mountain which also has the largest glacier in the Eastern Alps. Chair lifts will take your group to all year round snow and stunning views of the surrounding peaks and National Park

Kaprun Dams
Built as a source of green energy over 50 years ago this series of dams above Kaprun are still an important producer of energy to this day. The widest dam at 1.1km was a major engineering feat in the 60’s and the easy walk encompasses some fabulous scenery.

Krimml Waterfalls
Austria‘s most-visited natural phenomenon produce the highest vertical drop in Europe. A mountain path makes the top of the falls easily accessible and provides a fascinating case study for students of geography.

Salzkammergut
This large area is one of the most remarkable lake districts in the whole of Europe. There are plenty of chances to take part in water sports and large parts of the region have been listed as a World Heritage Site due to their natural beauty and geographical significance.
