Auschwitz-Birkenau, Krakow
These notorious concentration and death camps are synonymous with the Holocaust and one of the most important sites surrounding Krakow. Up to 3 million people died here and it is with sombre reverence that groups begin to understand the history of Poland.
Ojcow National Park, Krakow
This small national park, just outside of Krakow, contains a number of unusual limestone rock formations and is one of the most attractive recreational areas in the whole of Europe. The nearby village of Ojcow and the Pieskowa Skala Castle are worth a visit too.
Wieliczka Salt Mines, Krakow
UNESCO protected and, at 700 years of age, the oldest working salt mines in the world. A tour of the mines starts with being lowered in a cage down into the many caves and caverns that have been converted into chapels and decorated with salt statues.
