Bremen

Town Hall
Situated in the Market Square this is one of the most beautiful secular Gothic buildings in Europe and houses the Senate president and the Mayor of Bremen. Guided tours of the hall are available and recommended.

Roland Statue
It is said that if this statue were to fall then the city of Bremen would lose its freedom. This is the most impressive of 4 statues to the legendary medieval knight Roland who served Charlemagne whose empire commanded Europe.

St Peter’s Cathedral
Built between the 11th and 13th centuries this cathedral underwent extensive restoration in the 70s after damage acquired in WWII. Its twin 99 metre high towers are the tallest in the city and a trip to the top presents some fantastic city views.

The Science Centre
This hands-on exhibition contains more than 250 displays including experimentation, spatial and media installations that allow students to have fun and be creative while learning about the universe.

Mercedes Benz Factory Tour
Students can take a look behind the scenes at one of Germany's most modern car production factories and find out more about the creation of the SL, SLK, CLK and C-Class through an English speaking guided tour.

Bremerhaven

German Maritime Museum
From sail and steam to submarines and high tech yachts this museum displays the transformation of Germany’s maritime history through the ages. Exhibits include WWII submarines, Germany’s oldest active sailing ship and a vessel used in the first polar expedition.

Zoo next to the Sea
This zoo underwent a recent re-development plan and now houses some wonderful examples of animal environments including polar wasteland, mountains and tundra. Polar bears, penguins, sea lions, chimps and pumas are amongst the favourites.

Kunsthalle Art Gallery
Exhibitions range from contemporary art and architecutre to literary history and 19th century paintings. This relatively small gallery is one of the city’s most established cultural institutions and perfect for visiting art students.

German Emigration Centre
Over seven million people immigrated from Bremerhaven between 1830 and 1974 en-route to North America and at one time this was the largest emigration port in Europe. The exhibits are educational and entertaining and provide an interesting experience for history and citizenship students.

Bremerhaven 8° East Climate House
Open from June 2009 this fascinating exhibition hall allows students to take a journey along the 8th line of latitude around the earth through different climate zones. There are educational packs and conferences to help students learn more about the past and future of our planet.
