Probably the most outstanding skiing available in Austria, the Arlberg ski area, centred around the internationally famous resort of St Anton, offers superb high altitude skiing ranging from well groomed nursery slopes to tough mogul fields and ski trails. The first Austrian ski school was opened in St Anton, a fact the resort is proud of, and the connection with British skiers goes back for over a century. The resorts of Lech and Zürs are also covered on the ski pass and a day trip to ski there should not be missed.

Easy access from Flirsch via the Nasserein gondola. The Arlberg Kandahar international ski race is an interesting example of joint British and Austrian sportsmanship. In 1927 members of the Arlberg Ski Club and the Kandahar Ski Club from Mürren (named after a British General, Lord Roberts, Earl of Kandahar) held the first race on the Galzig. The organisers were Hannes Schneider, founder of the first Austria‘s ski school, and Arnold Lunn who rammed wooden poles into the snow to produce a new technique of skiing – the slalom.
